Businesses
have many unique reasons for implementing a renewable energy
system. Implementing a renewable energy system may be driven
by the owner or other leader in the organization, with the
reasons being many of the same ones listed for residential
customers. Reasons that businesses specifically note for implementing
a system include:
- Help
establish “green” identity for the company in
order to help capture sales in the growing “green”
market
- Increase
customer traffic by displaying the system to the public
or targeted customers
- Long-term
energy savings by offsetting kWh energy charges, and for
PV (photovoltaic or solar electric) systems, KW demand charges
- Long-term
stability of energy costs from system
- Favorable
financial incentives, including utility buy-back rates
- Federal
tax credits and accelerated depreciation benefits
- Act
on corporate conviction to be a positive influence in the
community
- Minimize
impact to the environment and global climate
- Demonstrate
the technology, establish or strengthen hi-tech image.
Whatever
the reasons, a PV and/or wind system can be defined and installed
to provide many of the benefits noted above. Many commercial
or industrial energy consumers have significantly high demands.
Even if a system that would cover all demands may not be feasible
for such a high use energy consumer, a system that covers
even a small portion of overall demands can still provide
many of the benefits noted above. For energy consumers with
a smaller energy appetite, a system could offset a greater
portion of demands or possibly cover all demands.
